Lightning to USB Cable

When Apple introduced the world to the new lightning connector along with the release of the iPhone 5 in 2012, it was only a matter of time before there were a number of third party accessory manufacturers that started offering adapters and adapter cables which let you use the lightning connector with older Apple accessories as well. Apple subsequently launched an adapter and adapter cable of their own which can be purchased directly from Apple or through an Apple reseller for around $ 30 and $ 40 respectively. That is a little steep though with other manufacturers offering cables with the same features at much lower costs. All you have to do is go on the internet and search for lightning adapters.

Ever since the iPhone 5 was released, it and every subsequent Apple product comes with a lightning connector. But it can even be purchased separately from Apple. It measures around 41.5" from one end to the other and is quite similar to the connector cable it replaced with the only real difference being the smaller plug at the end. This connector has 8 pins instead of the 30 pins on the older connectors and is oval shaped. It is almost 80 % smaller than the previous connector as well. In general, the lightning to USB cable is a lot sturdier than its predecessor and can handle much rougher usage too. The cable fraying problem has been successfully corrected with the help of reinforced rubber.

When it comes to smart phone accessories and cables, most of them are made with a particular purpose and I'm glad to say that the lightning connector from Apple serves its purpose quite well. One of the biggest improvements with this new connector is that you no longer have to worry about fumbling in the dark trying to fit it into your device or accessory. That's right; this connector can be used either way. This means that you can just plug it into your device and start using it immediately even if your eyes are closed.

But when the iPhone 5 was released, a lot of Apple loyalists were extremely disappointed thinking that they had to get rid of all their old accessories. Luckily, today there are many adapters and cables that allow you to connect your lightning adapter with older Apple accessories as well. So at the end of the day, everyone's a winner. At the end of the day, Apple has managed to introduce this new lightning connector without hurting the sentiments of its existing customers while still managing to entice many new customers to hop on to the bandwagon as well.
